Our History

The Felician Sisters were established as a religious order in 1855 in Warsaw, Poland. Their ministry consisted of service to the poor, orphaned, sick and elderly. In 1874, the Sisters accepted their first US ministry in Polonia, Wisconsin. They expanded their services to Manitowoc in 1887 and established Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, now known as St. Mary's Home.

The original home accommodated 60 residents. The Sisters farmed the land and raised animals for sustenance. Until 1934 the home served as both an orphanage and a home for elderly widows. In 1954 a new building was constructed, offering care to 100 senior residents.

Felician Village expanded its campus to offer a continuum of care. Multiple expansion projects include.

The Gardens, independent living garden homes and apartments, built in 1987.

The Court, assisted living apartments, added in 1998 is comprised of 32 one and two-bedroom assisted living apartments.

The Villa, originally opened in 2003 as a community based residential facility (CBRF) commonly referred to as a group home, accommodating eight residents at each villa. In May of 2009 a new Villa was constructed. The new Villa has two households with room for 16 residents in each. One of the households is designed for individuals who have early to mid-stage dementia and includes activities and programming for this type of individual.

St. Mary's, long term care, four households with 16 residents in each.

Next Step - Rehabilitation, inpatient care, outpatient care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology.

For over 120 years, the Felician Sisters in Manitowoc have demonstrated tenacity, competence and responsiveness to those in need. They have continued to adapt to the changes in the church and in the world Felician Village is a reflection of their continued response to the Manitowoc County community.
